Taking some time out to self-reflect on your life and think about where you are heading and where you would like to be going can help in a number of ways.  It gives you the opportunity to reflect on your dreams and aspirations to see if you are on the right path to achieving them. You get the opportunity to find out if your life is in line with your core values and if you are satisfied with the life that you are currently living or if there is some room for improvement.

Before you begin your self-reflection for prosperity you first need to prepare your mind, your body, and your surroundings, as they all need to support you and your intentions surrounding your self-reflection exercise if you are going to gain the most benefit from it. Here are a few tips to consider before you begin your journey of self-reflection.

Be Honest With Yourself

In order for this self-reflection process to be of any benefit you must be completely honest with yourself, if you’re not then it will lead you down the wrong path and you will end up with a life that you don’t want. No one else will be judging you during this process so you have the freedom to be completely honest with yourself so that you can design the life that you would truly love,

Be Kind To Yourself

Often we are our biggest critic and our own worst enemy, and can be highly critical of ourselves, pointing out even the smallest of mistakes.  But remember that nobody is perfect and everyone has flaws.  Be kind to yourself and embrace them rather than beating yourself up about them.  If you are a perfectionist, then lower your expectations and remember that it is not necessary to achieve perfection in everything you do.  It’s OK to be a little imperfect and it’s better to get things done than get them perfect.

Be Confident

Self confidence in your own abilities can be difficult for some, but be confident in your abilities and know that you are capable of far more than you know. Expect success as a given rather than have doubts as to whether you are worthy of success. Use this time to create a vision for yourself of the life you would love.

Start Small

You may already have big dreams and goals for your life, and it’s great if you have Big Hairy Audacious Goals (BHAG for short), but for some people they can appear daunting. If that is you then start off with smaller more realistic dreams and goals and build on them. Remember that you don’t need to know all of the steps that will take you there right now.

Forget about Other People’s Opinions

You will often get other people giving you their honest opinion, for free, but just because they give it doesn’t mean to say that you have to act on it. Make sure that their ideas or opinions don’t stand in the way of you achieving the success that you want.  It’s your life, not theirs.  As you evaluate your life, write down what you truly believe and then reflect on it. Is it really true? Or is it something that has been passed down from your parents or grandparents? Surround yourself with positive people in your life and that the input they give you only has your interests at heart. Ultimately, only you can truly understand the reasons behind your goals and dreams.

Eliminate Distractions

There are so many ways, in our modern world, in which we can be distracted, such as email and social media platform notifications, text messages and phone calls that we are often available 24 hours a day.  When it’s time to do some self-reflection for prosperity, schedule some time away from everything and set your phone on silent mode for the duration of that time, so that you can complete the self-reflection exercise without any distractions. Remove any thoughts of other people and their opinions from your mind. Turn off your laptop and your table and if possible go for a walk in nature to get away from everything.

Ask For Support

Tell your family, friends and loved ones about your dreams and the self-reflection process, but be sure that you are only telling it to those that are positive, someone that has your best interests at heart and genuinely wants you to succeed. You want people that will encourage you to keep going and not try to stop you when you reach an obstacle along the way.

Be Grateful

No matter how far you are on your life’s journey learning the practice of gratitude can make a huge difference in your life. Rather than being grateful only when things are going your way, look for and be grateful for everything that you have in your life right now, whether they appear good or bad and no matter how small, or insignificant they may seem. Even bad experiences that you have had along the way have shaped you into the person you are today. Take some time for yourself today and do some of your own self-reflection for prosperity and see where it takes you.
